Logia WiFi Weather Stations

What batteries must I use?

You should a good quality Alkaline / Lithium Battery for the outdoor unit and optional indoor sensors. The outdoor sensor unit uses 3 x AA 1.5 volt batteries. We recommend Energizer Lithium which will last for longer than most other brands.

Your display console will notify you when any of your sensor batteries are low as indicated below.

Weather Stations Questions & Answers

Your display console uses a CR 2032 backup battery (included) the CR 2032 should be replaced every 1 – 2 years.

My anemometer has stopped spinning, how do I fix it?

All of our Logia weather stations are quality checked and already fixed for this problem before they ship to you.

However if you own a Logia Weather Station and your anemometer has stopped spinning here’s an easy how to video on how to fix it.

Unfortunately the little bearing used (MR104) comes in 2 versions one with mild steel bearings which rust quickly and one with stainless steel bearings. Both versions have the same part number so you can imagine how easy this was for Logia to not know they had shipped some batches with the wrong bearings

How do I connect my weather station to Wunderground or Weathercloud?

Pages 14 and 15 of the user manual will guide you to connecting your Logia Weather Station to your WiFi and to Wunderground or Weathercloud.

Please note we prefer and suggest that users connect to Wunderground but it is your own choice. Just note that there is limitations on Weathercloud.

First connect your console to your Wifi as below

Weather Stations Questions & Answers

Weather Stations Questions & Answers

Because we are in the Southern Hemisphere your co-ordinates are entered as South and East (no negative numbers) and also you need to select S in the very last checkbox.

Make sure to COPY AND PASTE your Wunderground Station ID and password it’s easy to make a mistake by trying to type their passwords.

Once you are finished click APPLY and your station will be connected. It may take 10-60 minutes for your station to start showing live data on Wunderground.

What diameter pole can I mount my Logia Weather Station on?

You will require a pole 25 – 50 mm (max in diameter). It is best to stick between 25 – 45 mm to allow for tightening of the two clamp bolts.

My wind direction readings are not correct

In the Southern Hemisphere your solar sensor must face directly north and not south. Make sure your solar panel faces north, not only will your batteries receive the correct amount of daily charge needed but your wind direction problem will also be fixed.

How do I care for or maintain my weather station?

It is important to look after your weather station.

At least once every 2 months you should:

  • wipe the solar panel clean with a soft cloth
  • wipe the body of the outdoor unit with a soft damp cloth
  • make sure there are no leaves or debris in the rain collector or cup
  • inspect the unit for any damage
  • inspect the unit for any insects who may have chosen to make it home, ants and wasps can be particularly damaging to weather stations, gecko’s can also take favour to the small spaces to hide in
  • replace batteries at least once a year
  • check wind cups and wind direction vane for any damages or cracks
What's the best way to replace batteries without losing data?

On your display console, if it has a battery backup option, when it comes time to replacing batteries just replace one at a time which ensures no data or settings are every lost.

Which is better for me to use Wunderground or Weathercloud?

We only use Wunderground ourselves and recommend all our customers to use it too.

Wunderground is free and also fully supports rapid fire which means your Logia can send data every 10-15 seconds whereas updates on Weathercloud are MUCH slower (only every 10 minutes). See one of our Wunderground stations here.

Wunderground is the only service to give a true real time experience of your weather conditions so you can monitor what’s going on at home or office when you are not there.

Wunderground allows you to access your historical data for as many years as you like whereas Weathercloud limits this data storage to 1 year.

Save yourself frustration and trust on this, you cannot beat Wunderground its the biggest Personal Weather Station (PWS) network in the world.

My 7-in-1 display console is giving the wrong sunrise & sunset times

Make sure in your Wifi Setup that your co-ordinates are set to S (south) and E (East) and that you chose S hemisphere.

Additionally select the time server “time.windows.com” with the offset of +0200, we have detected a bug using the nist.time.gov server so please do not use it.

My time on my display console is wrong - out by 1 or 2 hours

Make sure DST (Daylight Savings Time) has not been accidentally set. Look at page 22 of the manual on how to disable DST. Secondly make sure you use the time server time.windows.com with a +0200 offset.

How do I connect my 5-in-1 USB Sync model to Linux?

To use the 5-in-1 USB model on Linux you need to use WeeWX with the Weewx-ws6in1 driver

Setup is relatively simple for those familiar with Linux. If you are having problems you may contact us and we can set it up remotely for you using Teamviewer. There will however be a setup charge for this.

Acurite Weather Stations

My lightning detector keeps losing connection with the console and constantly gives strike alerts at 1km when there is clear blue skies

The Acurite Lightning Sensor is very sensitive to interference from alarm systems IR beams, electronics in your house and even Wifi Routers.

The unit is weatherproof so place it at least 50 meters from your house under a tree.

Keep experimenting until you find the perfect position for it.

Also experiment by using different channels A, B or C until you find a channel all devices communicate with each other without interference.

My wind direction readings are not correct

Your outdoor unit has a marker saying “South” as we are in the Southern Hemishere that South marker must point North. This will fix your wind direction readings.

How do I care for or maintain my weather station?

It is important to look after your weather station.

At least once every 2 months you should:

  • replace batteries at least once a year
  • check wind cups and wind direction vane for any damages or cracks
My display has reset itself, what can cause this?

Display consoles with or without battery backups may reset, lose data or report erroneous data this can be caused by many things.

  • Interference from microwave or radar towers
  • Power voltage dips (brown out) or voltage spikes (surges)
  • other sources of signal interference

It it important to note under our Limited Warranty that any product malfunctioning or any damages caused by either brown outs or power surges are not covered under our warranty or product support.

South Africa has a notoriously bad power supply system with brown-outs (when voltage drops below the standard 220 volt) and surges (when voltage rises above the standard 220 volt) these conditions WILL adversely affect any electrical device. A brown-out is hardly noticeable to the human eye and can last for several hours causing extensive damage to electrical and electronic devices.

The onus is upon you to make sure your weather station console is adequately protected by a surge protector or surge & line filtering Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS).

To avoid interference being caused by any nearby or even distant radio, microwave or radar towers (military towers especially) change the channel of all your devices.

Each Acurite display and sensor has 3 channels and can take some time and experimentation to find a channel that does not pick up interference where your weather station has been installed.

MISOL / MSI WA1091 Weather Station

My console resets itself after 2mm of rain / No data is being received by the console

The solar “sensor” that comes with this weather stations is not suited to the southern hemisphere.

Unplug the rain gauge from the solar sensing unit and plug the rain gauge plug directly into the battery pack – bypassing the solar detector altogether.

The solar detector unit just remains unplugged it is not a solar charging unit so it does not charge your batteries it is a solar detection unit which just doesn’t function in South Africa. Your AA batteries should last a good 2 years especially if you use a good brand like Energizer Lithium.

My wind direction readings are not correct

The wind direction unit has a small S embossed into the unit, that S needs to face North and not South as we are in the Southern Hemisphere. This will correct your wind direction readings.

My indoor console is not receiving any data from the outdoor unit
Unplug the batteries from the indoor and outdoor unit (unplug the power cable too) for about 10-15 minutes. Then plug back in and the units should find each other again on a new channel. If not please contact us.

Weather Stations Questions & Answers

How long does it take for new stock to arrive?

Our new stocks always arrive around 12-14 days after we place orders with our warehouses. Most of our incoming stocks often sell before they even land and we unfortunately cannot reserve stock for anyone unless an order is placed and paid for. If you want to know the ETA of when a certain item will arrive simply contact us.

Why do your prices change frequently?

All of our imports are affected by the Rand/Dollar exchange rate so we continually adjust prices making sure we always give you the best price we possibly can.

What makes you different from other retailers?

Whereas other online stores sell weather equipment in addition to just about everything else imaginable none of them are able to understand, support or repair the products like we do. We are also the only online retailer of Weather stations to offer you a local warranty on the products backed up by ourselves.

We specialise only in Weather Equipment and we are the only online store that tests each and every weather station before it even leaves us.

We take pride in being SA’s number 1 Weather Shop.

This is why you shop with Weathershop.co.za we understand and actually test and use all our products thoroughly before we even sell them. We are not just some shop selling “stuff” that have no idea how to support the products. You will not find a better weather shop in SA. We are also able to fix and repair many things that may go wrong something which other retailers are unable to do.

We have over 250 weather stations out all around SA already with very happy customers.

We had a very bad storm and now my outdoor unit is not giving readings anymore

Unfortunately this can happen during very severe weather. Lightning can very easily damage the tiny sensitive components inside weather stations just as easily as it can damage any other device in your home.

To make sure it’s not just had it’s connectivity disrupted between the console do a full reset on your outdoor station and then re-pair it or contact us for help in this regard.

If you have done a reset but it has not helped please contact us via email so that we can instruct you on the RMA / return procedure so that we can get the unit back to test or repair it if it is repairable.

Do you have any Weather Stations that can run on Linux?

We have numerous models that can run on Linux using WeeWX

The Logia 5-in-1 with USB Sync we have tested with WeeWX and it logs beautifully to Wunderground.

WeeWX also supports many other online logging services.

The Davis Stations can also run on Linux with WeeWX.

The Misol stations (now discontinued) also work with WeeWX on Linux.

Can I log data to multiple online PWS weather services at the same time?

Only under Linux using WeeWX can you do this unless you are willing to write your own driver interface and uploader for Windows or MacOS

We have successfully tested the Logia 5-in-1 USB on Linux with WeeWX uploading to PWS Weather, WeatherCloud, Wunderground, Windy and WOW (WeatherObservationsWebsite) all at the same time while additionally uploading the WeeWX reports to a remote web server at the same time.

We are also able to achieve the same with the Davis Vantage Vue and Davis Vantage Pro Weather stations and also the Misol weather stations. Basically any weather station that has a USB interface to a computer can be manipulated to do anything you like under Linux.

The power of Linux is unbeatable !!!!
