Where are branded weather stations made?

Last Updated on 27 September 2023 – 11:11

So you’ve seen many weather stations and brands for sale and yes there are many indeed.

What most customers do not know is that most weather stations are all made by the same OEM manufacturer in China who customises each one with the company’s own logo and any firmware modifications to the display console that have been requested by the company.

Such brands include Bresser, Logia, Sainlogic, Ambient, La Crosse and many more strange and wonderful brand names around the world.

Are you just paying for a logo?

The difference to you as the customer is the price you will pay for the same product simply because it has a different logo on it and in some cases you will pay 50% more for the same product simply because you have been misled by a logo claiming to make the product somehow better.

In this article we are going to pick just one weather station design and show you how they all come from the same original manufacturer in China who originally made them.

The popular 5-in-1 weather station design

One of the most popular design is the common 5-in-1 weather station design. As you can clearly see in the above example they are all IDENTICAL. From left to right is Ambient Weather, Logia and Bresser.

There are even more brands using the same weather station design but simply slapping their logo on it and often charging the end user a lot more for it by misleading customers it’s either “made in USA” or “made in Germany” which it is NOT.

Another popular weather station design explored

Above is another example of a popular weather sensor design also made originally by the original OEM manufacturer in China and simply branded with a logo raising its price substantially.

On the left is the Logia 5-in-1 weather center and on the right is the Bresser 5-in-1 weather center. Don’t they look awfully similar?

Actually yes they are identical with the latter, Bresser, costing up to 50% more than the Logia model and there also other manufacturers using the very same weather sensor and display console but simply with a different logo.

The above design is used in no less than TEN different Bresser Weather Stations which all have the exact same outdoor sensor simply with different screens (that all do much of the same thing) and varying prices, the popular Bresser Meteochamp is included in this selection.

Where are Davis Weather Stations made?

Davis Weather Stations are a whole different ball game altogether. Davis products are designed, assembled, and rigorously tested by the Davis team at their headquarters in Hayward, California, USA.

Davis weather stations come at a premium though but if you are looking for a research grade professional weather station with more functionality than you can ever imagine Davis is the go-to but they come of course with quite a price tag.

For customers requiring advanced functionality for a weather station like intergrating into PLC, Modbus/Serial/TCP control systems, Davis is the top choice as we have all the interfaces to support such integrations giving you power and flexibility to do whatever you want.

We also have the VitalWeather system in Southern Africa which is a GSM/LTE & 4G modified Davis Weather Station that runs independently from Davis’ own Weatherlink system. VitalWeather allows you to place weather stations in very remote locations as long as there is a cellphone signal and to receive all that data on a very simple web interface. The entire system is solar powered too so it truly is a plug and play, set and forget weather station system.

Why does this matter to you?

As a consumer you have a right to know, and we as professionals in the weather station market also have a right to make our customers aware of the different products we sell.

SA Weather Shop is not just some online shop trying to pocket your cash, we test, EXTENSIVELY research and know every weather station product in the market from back to front and top to bottom. This is why we are unbeatable with selling you the correct product at the correct price and also advising you of what you are buying and how, like above, you have cheaper options for the same product and shouldn’t part with any extra cash just for a logo or brand name.

Our competitors are general online stores that sell thousands upon thousands of products but specialise in none as their catalogues of products run into many thousands. Jacks of all trades but masters of none.

The right advice at the right price

While we respect our customers decisions, we do help guide you with relevant information such as this but ultimately the choice is yours.

Our mainstream products are all from the original OEM manufacturer of most weather stations in the world, at unbeatable prices, with full backup, support, spares and warranties in SA and most importantly are certified for use in South Africa by ICASA.

We also carry spares for the weather stations we sell and know how to support and even repair them. Downtime is a pain in the backside and we make sure we keep our customers up and running with minimal downtime in the case of any product failure.

We hope this post has given you the consumer some insight into the very vast, sometimes complicated and often confusing weather station market. We will update this post soon focusing on another popular design with the very same traits.
